The Thing in the Box, page 1

It was in the summer of 1926 that I recieved an urgent, however brief, letter from my uncle to the effect that he was sending me a package which would require my immediate attention upon arrival. ~From The Thing in the Box, by J. M. DeSantis

My second story for Planet Lovecraft Magazine; the first being The Thing in the Water (an unfortunate, but necessarily similar title).

It was originally set for issue 5, but was moved up to issue 4 because the editor (K. L. Young) enjoyed the tale so much. Unfortunately, however, it was not printed in colour, as intended. Though the printed, black and white, version still holds up very well, and I have heard there is a possibility the story could see a reprint, down the line, in colour, should luck have it.

The tale is very wordy, but so is Lovecraft, and I meant to evoke something of his style here. If you want to read the end of the tale, and find out what is in the box, you'll just have to pick up the magazine (you can order it on the Planet Lovecraft website: www.planetlovecraftmagazine.com) as I'm only posting the first four pages (of six). I hope it's enough to pique your interest. Enjoy.
